2 September 1915:

Whilst the Guards division were having a sports day , Louis hears the news that his friend Footner is missing, probably killed. As we have already seen Footner was killed on 6 August. So this is when Louis first hears the news and the entry he made on 6 August was obviously made retrospectively.
The Battalion diary provides further detail of the sports. The Battalion held a gymkhana open to the Guards division and the 2nd Cavalry.
